CODE OF CONDUCT

The International Yoga Federation (IYF) upholds the highest ethical standards in all its programs and activities. As a global organization promoting yoga both as a sport and as a path for human development, the IYF expects every member, athlete, teacher, and volunteer to act with integrity, respect, and responsibility at all times.

1. Purpose and Spirit

The aim of every IYF activity—including yoga competitions, festivals, seminars, and training programs—is to promote self-development and contribute to the growth and well-being of others. A true yoga practitioner understands that competition is not about defeating others but about fostering unity and mutual progress. In every achievement, all participants share in the collective success.

2. Equality, Inclusion, and Respect

Participation in IYF programs is open to all individuals, regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, cultural background, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or political beliefs. Discrimination, harassment, or exclusion of any kind is strictly prohibited. All members are expected to communicate and cooperate with others in a respectful, supportive, and compassionate manner.

3. Integrity, Fair Play, and Anti-Doping

Yoga athletes and participants must embody honesty, discipline, and fairness in both practice and performance. The use of prohibited substances or methods is strictly forbidden, in full accordance with the principles of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and international standards of fair play. The IYF promotes clean sport and natural excellence through awareness, self-control, and discipline.

4. Protection and Safeguarding

IYF enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of exploitation, abuse, harassment, or discrimination. All IYF members, trainers, and volunteers must adhere to safeguarding standards that protect the dignity and well-being of every participant. Activities are designed to ensure safety, supervision, and accountability, in accordance with the United Nations standards on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), which IYF voluntarily upholds.

5. Responsibility and Accountability

All members and affiliated organizations are accountable to the IYF Ethical Code and the Federation’s governing bodies. Misconduct or violations of ethical principles may result in disciplinary action, suspension, or referral to the appropriate authorities. Reporting mechanisms are available through IYF Headquarters for confidential and impartial review.

6. Commitment to Global Standards

This Code of Conduct is guided by international frameworks, including the United Nations Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the World Anti-Doping Code (WADA), and the International NGO Code of Ethics. Although not yet a consultative member, the IYF voluntarily aligns its ethical and safeguarding policies with the principles of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating its commitment to transparency, equality, and peace through yoga.
